Eagle Scout Project

The completed project and the Boy Scouts that helped.
For someone to reach the rank of Eagle Scout, they have to earn, at a minimum, over twenty merit badges, do countless hours of community service, hold several leadership positions, and complete numerous requirements. It is an accomplishment that anyone involved with the Boy Scouts will tell you is hard to achieve.

One of the primary requirements that is required of an Eagle Scout candidate is to design and organize a community service project and provide leadership to fellow scouts helping to carry out the project. To reach the highest rank in scouting, I designed a raised garden bed, meant to be handicap accesible, for a local retierment community in Suffolk Virginia. Part of this project involved raising funds for material, consulting with experts, bargaining for discounts at hardware stores, and providing leadership during the construction phase.

Organizing the project was a lot of hard work, but the end result was very rewarding. It also helped me realize what went into putting a project together, something that I believe will benefit me as I move on to study architecture in college.

Project Workbook

This project connects to the following expectations:
S1: Responsible Choices and Goals
- I had to set deadlines and goals for the project, as well as make responsible decisions during the planning phase in order to ensure that I was producing a quality project that meet all the guidelines.

S2: Teamwork and Leadership
- I provided leadership to the scouts that volunteered their Saturday afternoon so that they knew what my goals and expectations were for the project.

C1: Responsible Citizenship
- This community service project, which I spent many hours organizing, benefitted the citizens of a local retirement community, and the end result was well recived by both residents and staff.
